Sermon on the Mount

Tuesdays, January 12 - March 13 @ 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Atrium

What does it mean to be a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven? Matthew's gospel opens with three chapters containing Jesus' longest recorded message - a sermon given to His disciples early in His ministry to articulate what the life of a Christ-follower would look like. It was a message intended to turn upside down every expectation His closest followers might have.

more info

Both practical and profound, the sermon asks of us the same questions it posed to its original hearers: How should a disciple relate to sin? To others? To the Law? How does a disciple think, speak, and act? What is the nature of true righteousness?

In His sweeping depiction of kingdom citizenship, Jesus utters some of the most familiar passages in all of Scripture. Most of us have only encountered the Sermon on the Mount in fragments, considering its subdivisions as complete teachings in their own right - a study on blessedness, a reflection on the Lord's Prayer, a meditation on lilies of the field. But what if we navigated these three chapters as they were originally heard: as one cohesive, well-ordered message, intended to challenge us to think differently about repentance, salvation, and sanctification?

Parenting from the Tree of Life

Wednesdays, January 13 - May 18 @ 6:45-8:00 p.m.

The Tree of Life Series provides insight and practical application focused on helping parents build strong family relationships and create an encouraging environment that lead to healthy outcomes for children.

Part One: Life, Children and Relationships (Six Sessions)

January 13-February 17

Part One in the Life Series is focused on helping parents build strong family relationships and create an encouraging environment in the home that leads to healthy outcomes for children Preschool through Pre-Teen. With topics and practical application such as creating emotional security for children, understanding your child’s unique Love DNA and how Dads and Moms create lasting impressions in the life of their children. Part One is a six-week course and is foundational to the rest of this parenting series.

Part Two: Life, Children and Character (Six Sessions)

February 24-April 6

The goal of Part Two is to help parents connect the dots between God’s message of love and good will toward man and the character development of children. Topics covered will demonstrate how young children learn moral lessons, internalize meaningful values, and then translate them into social skills. Raising children who are kind, courteous, respectful, cooperative, confident and sensitive to the needs of others. Parents will learn how to encourage their children to do “good” out of the love of virtue, and not from the fear of reproof. This six-week class builds on the foundation of Part One.

Part Three: Life, Children, Encouragement and Correction (Five Sessions)

April 13-May 18

Part Three will emphasize how to guide with instruction, motivate with encouragement and establish necessary boundaries through correction. There are a number of corrective strategies parents can use to their advantage, but ultimately the best form of parental correction is prevention. There is no better way to deal with behavioral problems than by preventing them from happening in the first place. Much of what is covered in the first twelve visits speaks to the positive, preventative side of training. Yet, the reality remains, correction will still be necessary. The good news is this: understanding the working components of instruction, encouragement and correction will help keep your little one on track and heading in the right direction.

Bring your kids grade 3 and up for an interactive family class focusing on: poverty, orphans, street kids, child laborers, children of war, and victims of HIV/AIDS. This is a serious subject. However, the content will be age-appropriate.

Each class will include videos, simulations providing hands-on learning, family processing time, prayer, and practical steps for involvement.

What is exciting about this class is that it is for families. We want to encourage and empower kids to become advocates for their own peers, and by having parents participate in meaningful activities with their children, we build family unity.

Sermon on the Mount

Tuesdays, January 12 - March 13
@ 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Atrium
What to bring

@ 6:45-8:00 p.m.

What to bring

Wednesdays, January 13 - March 16
@ 6:45 - 8:00 p.m.

What to bring

Bring your kids grade 3 and up for an interactive family class focusing on: poverty, orphans, street kids, child laborers, children of war, and victims of HIV/AIDS. This is a serious subject. However, the content will be age-appropriate.

Each class will include videos, simulations providing hands-on learning, family processing time, prayer, and practical steps for involvement.

What is exciting about this class is that it is for families. We want to encourage and empower kids to become advocates for their own peers, and by having parents participate in meaningful activities with their children, we build family unity.

Heroes of the Faith or Flawed Superheroes - February 3 - March 18, 2016

The bible is clear: God uses imperfect people who have failed, sinned, and royally messed up. Women and men whose actions were not consistent with God's character and yet instrumental to Hi s work show up on every page. Consider the encouragement and hope their stories offer to us as we work out what following Christ looks likes amidst mistakes and imperfection. A place to study, ask questions, and consider God's call on your life. Format includes teaching by Pastor Ramona Spilman and other teachers followed by small group discussion and prayer.

No cost or registration required; KidZone provided.
